What's New At The East Bay SPCA? Plenty!

The East Bay SPCA-Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to animals- is located in Oakland California with a branch in Dublin, California and serves the greater East Bay area of San Francisco and Oakland. They are committed to taking care of the dogs and cats in the community by cutting down on neglect cruelty and overpopulation. This is accomplished with a variety of programs and educational opportunities that help owners along with the animal companions.

The Oakland East Bay SPCA has been in operation since 1874 and features not only and animal adoption program but also a foster companion program. Donations are cheerfully accepted at the animal shelter such as canned and dry kitten and puppy foods, puppy pads, cat toys, non-clumping litter and litter boxes. Cash is accepted. Plus volunteers and the pets that volunteer their owners are always welcome to spread the cheer at hospitals and senior centers.

Puppy and kitten adoption are very active programs at the East Bay SPCA. Pet adoption is a huge decision and all the aspects and responsibilities that come with having a pet must be considered.  Make sure that no one in the family is allergic to the pet. Proper space, potty training, adjustment time, cost of food, cages and vet visits all add up. An average cost of care of a pet is considered to be $800.  Plus consider any pets already living in the home and how the new addition will be welcomed. If you decide to adopt a dog the East Bay SPCA offers training classes and advice for free. Other classes offered are Puppy Pre-School and Puppy Headstart Bully Basics, Doggie and Me, Puppy Kindergarten, C’mon Let’s Go and Reactive Dog training.

A featured program at the East Bay SPCA is the PALS pet therapy program. PALS sets up the preparation and training for human and animal teams that desire to bring healing and love to those who really need it. The SPCA is associated through PALS with many facilities in the Alameda County area. There are numerous studies that show that becoming involved with pets decreases the heart rate and blood rate and contributes to the overall well being and health of grownups and kids alike.
A worthwhile group to consider, the East Bay SPCA contributes to the overall well being of furry, scaly, and feathered friends and the humans who live with them.
